Crypto Unicorns, a digital pet collecting and farming play and earn game, has integrated Chainlink (LINK/USD) Verifiable Random Function (VRF) on Polygon (MATIC/USD) mainnet, game creator Laguna Games posted on their Medium page.
Laguna has access to a verifiable and auditable source of randomness to select rewards for players of Crypto Unicorns: The Dark Forest, their first fully on-chain minigame, after integrating the industry-leading oracle network.
Fraud-proof, transparent experience
The integration has led to a more exciting, transparent, and fraud-proof user experience. Players who stake Unicorns to try to win an NFT in the minigame can remain confident that the selection is truly random.
Players send their Unicorns into the Dark Forest to find UNIM, but the number of UNIM they can carry is limited, so they must be “unstaked” daily. The more adventurous can sacrifice UNIM at a haunted altar on the edge of the forest for a chance at a Shadowcorn NFT.
Project in partnership with Moonstream DAO
The Dark Forest is Laguna’s first ecosystem project, the result of a partnership with Moonstream DAO. Moonstream has been supplying Laguna with on-chain analytics since the latter’s launch. Moonstream wrote the Dark Forest smart contract and uses the Terminus protocol to represent in-game items.
Neeraj Kashyap, Moonstream DAO Founder, commented:
We found it very easy to integrate with Chainlink and are happy with the verifiable randomness Chainlink VRF provides. We plan to expand our use of Chainlink VRF to other on-chain minigames in the Crypto Unicorns universe in the future.
Secure RNG of paramount importance
The network needed access to a secure random number generator (RNG) that any user could independently audit to determine
