Oraichain, a leading AI-powered oracle and blockchain ecosystem supplier, has launched its Verifiable Random Function (VRF) on the Avalanche network (AVAX/USD), Invezz learned from a press release.

With this, Avalanche ecosystem developers can leverage a truly decentralized, publicly verifiable random number generator that’s fully resistant to attack, offering dApps much-needed and improved functionality.

Benefits of verifiable randomness

dApps can benefit from generating verifiable randomness in many ways. For example, DeFi platforms and gambling protocols have always attracted hackers looking to exploit some kind of vulnerability. Existing solutions such as generating a random value through an API are vulnerable to rerolling, rewrite attacks, and other known abuses.

Fully tamper-proof

After Oraichain VRF 2.0 debuts on Avalanche, its dApps will benefit from publicly verifiable random number generation that’s completely transparent and tamper-proof. It can be verified via a group signature verification process.

How it works

Any request from an Avalanche dApp for randomness with Oraichain VRF will be transmitted as an event from the Oraichain Mainnet via the Avalanche-Oraichain bridge. Oraichain VRF then binds a pairing-based threshold cryptosystem library to its smart contract to verify validator’s signatures, creating a group signature on-chain.

Then, it generates a publicly verifiable random value that’s submitted back through the cross-chain bridge to the VRF contract and, from there, to the Avalanche dApp.

Welcoming developers of all experience levels

You don’t need in-depth knowledge of smart contracts to create and verify VRF values. This can be done through a simple query to the VRF smart contract. This is because each signature contribution from the VRF executors must be verified on-chain with Oraichain before it’s stored.
